Attendees will deepen their appreciation for and understanding of the wonderful world of fungi. We will discuss strategies for identifying both edible and poisonous mushrooms in the wild, focusing on key species commonly found in the Lowcountry region.
Brian Wheat is a professor of horticulture at Trident Technical College in North Charleston and the founder of Common Joy, a family-run farm specializing in sustainably grown luffa gourd sponges in Charleston. Before entering agriculture, Brian spent nearly a decade teaching middle school science and high school biology. With a focus on regenerative farming practices, he has provided agribusiness consulting and training to farmers, entrepreneurs, and organizations working to strengthen local food systems. Brian holds a BA in Biology from SUNY Oswego and an EdM in Biology Education from the University at Buffalo.
