Miguel Falomir Faus, Director of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid
This lecture will focus on Titian as an intellectual, artistic, and social model for Velázquez. In it, Falomir will pay particular attention to the artists’ relationships with the court, how both artists fulfilled the commissions they received, and how they behaved within the court. It is tempting to think that Titian, who had many followers but no ideal heir, ended up having him in the Sevillian painter.
$10; free for members and SMU faculty/staff/students
