About this Event

The fifth and last lecture in our series will feature Dr. Peggy Macdonald presenting Florida's Female Pioneers. Dr. Peggy Macdonald examines some of the women who have shaped Florida, including Dr. Esther Hill Hawks, Harriet Beecher Stow, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, Betty Mae Tiger Jumper, May Mann Jennings and Florida's "Three Marjorie(y)s" - Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Marjorie Harris Carr and Marjory Stoneman Douglas.

Native Floridian Dr. Peggy Macdonald is a public historian and adjunct professor at Stetson University and Indian River College. She has written about local and Florida history for FORUM Magazine, Gainesville Magazine, Our Town Magazine, and Senior Times. In 2014, the University Press of Florida published her first book, Marjorie Harris Carr: Defender of Florida's Environment.
