Historic Tuscaloosa is excited to announce the return of its four-part lecture series, which explores the fundamentals and highlights broad aspects of heritage and historic preservation in Tuscaloosa.

This year’s lecture series will take place in room 38 in Lloyd Hall at the University of Alabama on June 26, July 24, August 28, and September 25. The series is not just about listening but also about engaging. Each meeting includes interaction between participants and presenters through Q&A sessions at the end of each lecture, fostering a sense of community and shared learning.
Historic Tuscaloosa, formerly known as the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society, is a nonprofit organization that values the role of its local community in preserving the area's historical and cultural heritage. In our ongoing effort to engage and educate our community, we are thrilled to announce the return of our lecture series this year. The series offers a free and enriching experience to learn and expand one’s knowledge of our local history.
Beginning in June, the lectures will take place in room 38 of Lloyd Hall at the University of Alabama on the fourth Thursday of each month. Lectures will start at 5:30 pm.
The series starts at 5:30 p.m. on June 26, with Mr. George Adair discussing his topic about "The University of Alabama's Coal Lands & Alabama's Convict Lease System."
The series, sponsored by Historic Tuscaloosa, will continue at 5:30 p.m. on July 24, with Mr. James Lowery discussing “Birmingham Mineral Railroad Signs Project – The BMRR Past and Present.”
The third event will feature Dr. Cameron H. Lacquement at 5:30 p.m. on August 28 discussing "The History of the Walker Cemetery - An Early 19th Century Cemetery of Tuscaloosa."
The final event will conclude with Mr. John Allen at 5:30 p.m. on September 25, discussing “Virginia Tunstall Clay, the most fascinating woman in America, who grew up in the Collier House and the Battle-Friedman House.”
