In conjunction with the museum’s exhibition “asinnajaq: Three Thousand,” join us for a conversation between visiting writer and journalist Rebecca Nagle and Kathryn Hill, the museum’s associate curator of modern and contemporary art. Citizen of the Cherokee nation and author of “By the Fire We Carry,” Nagle is an award-winning advocate and writer focused on advancing Native rights, expanding Indigenous representation and educating on federal Indian law and tribal sovereignty. Her writing has appeared in the Atlantic, the Washington Post, the Guardian, USA Today and Indian Country Today, among many others.Currently on view at the museum, “Three Thousand” merges archival research, imagined futures and personal narratives. Aligning with asinnajaq’s approach to engaging with the land and Indigenous histories, Nagle mines southern, Heartland and Georgia histories, archives and narratives to illuminate Cherokee resistance. Join us to learn more about Nagle’s work and her approaches to research, the use of archives and the role visual arts and narratives play in shaping history.
This event is hosted in partnership with the Institute of Native American Studies at the University of Georgia.
