Discover the stories of three Black composers from the 18th and early 19th centuries who, despite the constraints of slavery and racism, achieved the rare feat of publishing their music. This lecture will highlight their lives and music, and bring attention to three long under-recognized composers.Dr. Jessica Valiente is a lecturer at the Mason Gross School of the Arts of Rutgers University. She will perform works by many of the composers mentioned in the lecture in the Trinity Minis concert on Sunday, October 20th at 4pm.
This lecture is free and open to the public. It will take place in Trinity's fellowship hall which is ADA accessible.
