Exploring the role of cannabis and hemp from pre-colonial African roots to modern-day significance.

Join us for Leaves of Legacy, a free exhibition celebrating the historical, cultural, and contemporary significance of cannabis in African and Black communities. This engaging and educational event, held during Black History Month, will take you on a journey from the introduction of cannabis to Africa in pre-colonial times to its profound impact on modern-day society.

About the Exhibition

Leaves of Legacy is a health promotion and cultural education platform designed to bridge community narratives with evidence-informed cannabis education. We create space for meaningful dialogue on harm reduction, wellness, and the evolving role of cannabis in Black and other ethnocultural and healing traditions, all in alignment with today's legal market and public health priorities.

What to Expect: Activities Throughout the Day

Throughout the three-day exhibition, you'll experience multiple engaging activities and installations:

Cannabis Histories Exhibit"From Ancient Taiwan to Africa: The Global Journey of Cannabis" explores the under-told global and diasporic histories of cannabis, tracing its spiritual, medicinal, and cultural roots across centuries. This immersive storytelling experience anchors modern cannabis conversations in deep heritage and global context.

Health & Cannabis Education Hub"Cannabis 101 and Conscious Consumption Showcase" features interactive education sessions and displays on safe use, harm reduction, and evolving research. Discover a unique packaging archive from both illicit and legal markets, bridging historical and contemporary consumption practices while positioning brands as leaders in consumer education.

Community Art & Cultural Expression"Local Artists Reimagining Cannabis Futures" is a curated showcase of local Black visual and musical artists exploring cannabis, wellness, and identity through powerful visual and performance art. This celebration of creative expression deepens authentic community connections and supports emerging voices.

Thought Leadership & Dialogue Series"Panels on Mental Health and Community Health" features high-impact discussions with community leaders and cannabis consumers, covering mental health, social and health equity, and emerging opportunities. This unique platform aligns progressive, evidence-informed cannabis conversations with real community voices.
