Class Description

In this class you will learn the basics of making wristbands for anyone, in different styles and types of leather. We will make a mystery braid wristband first, then you can make whatever you like. If you want to make a wristband for another person, please bring a measurement of their wrist. Each student will leave class with at least two or more completed wristbands and knowledge of methods of construction, hardware and how to install it, and how to measure for and fit wristbands.

The materials fee for this class is $10. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts cash, Venmo, CashApp, and Zelle.

Learning Objectives

• knowledge of different types of leather and how to work with them
• understanding of hardware such as snaps, button studs, buttons, etc and how to install them
• how to make a mystery braid
• how to measure for wristbands to achieve the desired fit
• basic construction methods - sewing and rivetting
• Students will complete at least 2 wristbands most make 3
• This will give students the confidence to make their own basic leather accessories
• While there is no tool testing, students will learn to use a mallet and drive punches, or a squeeze punch, a snap press, rivet setting tools, an awl and a blade to cut.

Target Audience

Participants must be at least 12 years old. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Class Policies

Attire: Attendants should wear close-toed slip-resistant shoes (steel-toe work boots are ideal), long pants, and no loose-fitting clothing that could possibly get caught in machinery. Make sure to wear only natural fibers (i.e., cotton, wool, linen, etc) and bring reading glasses if needed for detailed work.
