Join Sheila Cailleau of Magpie Chiq in makingwarm mittens.In this workshop you will learn how to cut and sew sheep shearling or hand plucked and sheared beaver and leather, plus you will burn a small image into the leather to truly customize your mitts. This is a three day workshop that will have some homework.
It is helpful if you already know how to sew, but even if you don't you will have fun either way , possibly learn a new skill or tap into a hidden talent , meet new friends and have a lot of laughs.
Materials included in workshop:
Sinew - many colours to choose from
Sewing needles
Pattern clips (also available for purchase)
Scissors
Knives
Pens
Materials to purchase:
Deer leather in grey, brown, or black
Sheep shearling or hand plucked and sheared beaver
Fur cuff - Black, Artic or silver fox
Cost will range from $130 to $150 depending on your choices and due to instructor at the first class.
Day 1 - Choosing, tracing, and cutting lining and leather and burning image into the leather. Please come prepared with a couple options for images (we may start sewing if everything stays on track).
Day 2 - Clipping and sewing lining.
Day 3 - Clipping and sewing leather, cutting, and adding fur for cuff.
Sheila is a leather artist that draws her inspiration from the land and her families history of trapping and land based teachings. She honours traditional teaching but loves thinking outside the box. Come and get creative with her!
