About this Event
This session explores how thoughtful preparation, engaging learning experiences, and cooperative learning strategies can help children feel confident, capable, and supported during emergency situations. Participants will examine proactive ways educators can create safe, stable environments that serve as a foundation for understanding and healing during times of crisis. The training will focus on helping young children understand and respond to natural, health-related, human-caused, technological, and accidental emergencies in age-appropriate, non-threatening ways that reduce fear and panic.
In addition, participants will explore the key components of successful cooperative learning activities and how intentionally designed group experiences can keep children engaged, self-directed, and actively learning. Educators will learn strategies for creating meaningful activities that maximize classroom time, encourage teamwork and problem-solving, and allow teachers opportunities to work with small groups while the larger class remains productively engaged. The session will provide practical techniques and a checklist of effective cooperative learning components to support smooth, successful implementation in early childhood classrooms.
