About this Event
For many parents it can be overwhelming when they first realize that their child has OCD. Therapy for the child from a licensed professional is important and necessary.
However, many well-meaning parents make the situation worse by not knowing how to respond or communicate with their child about their OCD.
If you've asked yourself questions like:
What is OCD?
When does accommodating the behavior make it worse?
What techniques are beneficial?
Why can't my child talk to me about it?
Is this real or is my child just trying to get attention?
You are not alone!
Many parents sadly lose the relationship with their child altogether because they don't understand how to respond.
The purpose of this meet up is for parents to hear directly from our teen "experts"- teens who have learned coping mechanisms and strategies to manage their OCD, allowing them to live their best lives.
You will have the opportunity to ask them questions like:
"How as as a parent should I respond when my child does X?"
"How did you learn to talk about it?"
"What do you wish your parents knew when you first started experiencing OCD?"
This Meetup goes beyond the typical support group format. Led by two parents of teens with OCD, Patrick and Maisie are looking to create a safe space to help other parents get the tools they wish they had when they both first started on this journey.
This is a one-time meetup, but we're open to making it more frequent if there's interest. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect, support, and learn together.
