Learning More About BPD: A Workshop For Families & Friends (1-day)This one day workshop is for carers (families and friends) who support someone with (or a likely diagnosis) of borderline personality disorder (BPD). It provides information about BPD and how to best support the person whilst still caring for yourselves. The group will explore a number of educational and practical approaches to learning new skills in the context of a safe environment amongst other carers.
Presenters:
Rita Brown is the Carer Consultant for Spectrum and works from a lived experience of supporting/caring for someone with BPD at a number of Spectrum’s workshops and BPD Family and Carer Support Group. Rita is a volunteer and board member of the Australian BPD Foundation.
Jo Veltkamp is a mental health nurse with extensive experience in a variety of roles in both private and public metal health settings. Her predominant interest lies in working with those with a lived experience of personality disorder and their carers. She is currently employed as a Senior Clinician at Spectrum working in collaboration with the Spectrum Lived Experience Team (consumer and carer) and the intake team. She also continues to work with adolescents and adults in public mental health settings.
Who should register? Family and friends of people with (or a likely) diagnosis of borderline personality disorder.

Lunch: A light lunch, morning and afternoon tea including a vegetarian selection is provided.
Getting to Spectrum: Spectrum is located at 110 Church Street, on the corner of Church Street and Tweedie Place. Entrance is via the front of the building, to the right of the Skoda car dealership.
Public transport:
- Tram 78 on Church Street. Alight at Tweedie Pl/Church Street (Stop 63).
- Tram 109 on Victoria Parade (about a 5 min walk to 110 Church Street)
- Tram 75 on Bridge Rd (about a 7 min walk to 110 Church Street)
Car parking:
There is very limited 2 hour street parking available in the area. All day parking is available in:
- 35 Elizabeth Street, Richmond – 11 minute walk (about $16 a day)
- 1 Allowah Terrace, Richmond – 12 minute walk (about $15/day)
- Doonside St, Richmond – 14 minute walk (about $10/day
- 679 Victoria St, Abbotsford, Australia – 20 minute walk (about $10 a day)
Cancellation policy: If your circumstances change and you no longer can attend this event please log into your eventbrite account and cancel your ticket and request a refund no later than one (1) week prior to the event. A refund will not be issued if notification has not been received within this time frame and you will be required to pay for the event.

NB This workshop is aimed at those who provide care and support in a voluntary capacity to those experiencing BPD. It is not relevant for:
- people with lived experience unless they are in an active caring role for someone with BPD themselves.
