The History Museum of Mobile’s upcoming Learning Lunch Program is on Wednesday, June 10th at 12 PM and will feature Wayne Sirmon. The title of his presentation is The War Before the Declaration: From Lexington to Philadelphia, which will explore the 15 months between "the shot heard around the world" and "We hold these truths to be self-evident." The 13 colonies were witness to combat, treason, invasions, preparations, and parades. We will follow the transformation of disorganized militias into 25,000 men under arms in the Continental Army. Wayne Sirmon, a former Army Infantry officer and graduate of the Army’s Combat Studies Institute, is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of History at the University of Mobile. Active in the Mobile community, he has served on the Boards of a variety of organizations ranging from the History Museum, USA National Alumni Association, Veterans Day Commission and Scouting America. Sirmon provided state-level leadership to bicentennial observances of the War of 1812, Freemasonry in Alabama and Lafayette’s Grand Tour. He has a direct connection with America's War of Independence through 5th, 6th, and 7th -great grandfathers. Fittingly, Sirmon is a past president of the General Galvez Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and served two terms at the Alabama State Secretary.
The History Museum of Mobile invites the public to attend the free Learning Lunch lecture series.
