Learn Your Sewing Machine

Become more confident with your own sewing machine and create a simple tote bag to take home!

This class is geared for folks who have their own sewing machine but need a little help getting started with using it, learning to sew a simple but useful totebag!

What to bring:

Please bring your sewing machine along with all of the basic supplies that came with it, including the foot pedal and power cord. Don't forget to bring the manual that came with your machine. If you've lost it or if you bought a used one and it didn't come with a manual you should be able to find a copy online, oftentimes free! If you do have to download a manual online, please have it printed ahead of class, so that you can make any notes needed during class.

Other materials needed:

Universal sewing needle size 90/12 or 100/16. (If your fabric is heavy weight such as denim, heavy canvas or upholstry, you might need what is referred to as a denim needle.

fabric scissors and thread snips (if you don't have we will have some on hand)

approximately 1 yard of fabric. Exact dimensions of fabric needed: 28 by 36 inches. You will want fabric that is sturdy enough to be a useful tote, so quilting cotton or light to midweight canvas (even upholstery fabric!) are good choices.

You can buy your fabric and thread at SCRAP! Just be sure to allow enough time for necessary shopping before the class starts.
