About this Event

This monthly 4-part hybrid, genealogy workshop is designed for beginners and aims to assist Americans in tracing their ancestry back to the 1870 US census. It focuses on connecting descendants of emancipated American chattel slaves, also known as Freedmen descendants, with their Freedmen ancestors using Freedmen Bureau Records. Participants will learn about the Freedmen status and the justice claim of Reparations owed to this unique historic American ethnic group, and how to verify and document your own family's Freedmen status.

LEARN YOUR ROOTS

SATURDAYS, 3-5:30PM: Two (2) In-person labs give participants information to get started on their family tree including family group worksheets, interviewing and other information gathering tips, as well as establishing a free genealogy account.

TUESDAYS, 6-8:30PM: Two (2) virtual sessions with Certified Genealogist, Delbra Brown where participants will go to the next level of research of US records necessary for documenting and preserving family heritage, archives and records. Break through brick walls.
