Learn to use a sewing machine, then sew a cushion cover and zip darted purse to take home. Skills learnt on this course are excellent preparation for making clothes in future projects.Bring your own machine or borrow one of ours.

On this Absolute Beginners sewing machine course you'll learn how to sew with a sewing machine, pin, cut out and sew up a simple cushion cover from our basic paper pattern & then make a purse to practice zips and darts. By the end of the course you'll have practised various essential sewing techniques and feel confident using patterns.
Week 1: Threading up the machine and bobbin, different stitches, adjusting tension, changing a needle and presser foot, starting to cut out your cushion cover and how to use patterns, pin, cut out.
Week 2: Laying up pattern, cutting out & sewing your cushion cover and practising stitch types as you go.
Week 3: Finishing cushion & making your zipped darted purse PLUS if you finish early have a go at button holes or applique.
