WORKSHOP DETAILS
In this three-day workshop, you’ll transform a blanket into your very own one-of-a-kind jacket!
We’ll take a vintage, thrifted, handmade, or otherwise beloved blanket and give it a whole new life as a wearable piece of clothing. You’ll learn how to work with the unique characteristics of your blanket, lay out and cut your jacket pieces, assemble the garment, and finish it with professional sewing techniques.
Because every blanket is different, your finished jacket will be completely unique. This is a great opportunity to get creative with color, pattern, texture, and placement while learning how to turn an existing textile into a functional garment.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
- All necessary sewing equipment and standard notions are provided.
- A jacket pattern
- Step-by-step instructions
You are responsible for bringing your own blanket.
SKILL LEVEL
Confident Beginner
You should feel comfortable threading a sewing machine, winding a bobbin, and sewing a basic straight stitch. Some previous garment-sewing experience is recommended, as we’ll be working with a multi-piece jacket pattern and learning garment construction techniques.
If you’ve never used a sewing machine before, this workshop may be too advanced for you.

WHAT TO BRING
One blanket to turn into your jacket!
Please bring your blanket to class with you. The blanket should be large enough to accommodate the pattern pieces for your desired jacket size. But don't worry, we will be reaching out before class to verify your blanket will work for the project!
Your blanket can be vintage, thrifted, handmade, or something you already own and want to give a new life. Quilts, wool blankets, and sturdy cotton blankets are all great options, provided there is enough material for your chosen size.
You may also want to bring a notebook or take photos during class to help you remember the techniques you learn.
A sewing machine in good working order
Don't have a machine? No worries, just reach out and let me know so I can make sure to have a machine set up for you.
Snacks and drinks welcome! We have a small fridge and lots of filtered drinking water.
