Learn to Play Mahjong at River Bend Bookshop

Small group classes with limited spots! Each class runs for 2.5 hours.

No experience needed! Linda will teach you everything from basics to strategy. Bring your friends or make new ones while you sip, shuffle, and shop!

An introductory lesson designed for brand new players. This three part lesson includes tile identification, understanding the card, and rules of play.

We break down the game in easy-to-follow steps, so you can confidently learn the rules, strategies, and traditions of Mahjong all while hanging out with your pals (and making new friends!)

If you've taken our 101 class or a similar intro course, this is where to land next. A continuation of Lesson 101, designed for players who need guided practice or have some experience and want to build on their foundational skills. We'll link you with other beginners and get you playing more games. An instructor will be present to guide you and answer questions as they arise in game play.

All materials necessary to play will be provided by River Bend Bookshop. Complimentary snacks and beverages will also be available for attendees!

Hi neighbors! I’ve been lucky to call West Hartford home for the past 30 years, and I’m excited to connect with our wonderful community in a new way by teaching Mah Jongg at our local community River Bend Bookshop.

I was introduced to Mah Jongg 20 years ago by my mom when she retired and quickly became a huge fan! So much so, that there were days we played all day and never got out of our PJ’s. Along with Mah Jongg, I love “grandma hobbies” like gardening, baking, card games, needlepointing and many more.

I teach in a patient, organized, and simplified way to make learning Mah Jongg feel easy and fun. Whether you’re brand new or just need a refresher, I’d love to help you learn the game and enjoy it as much as I do!
