Pedaling Minds-Learn to Pedal/Beginner Rider Half Day Camp (6/14/21-6/18/21)
About this Event

Learn to Pedal / Beginner Summer Camp:

Ages 5-11- Half Day Camp

We guarantee you will see a very noticeable change in your child’s ability, confidence, knowledge, and desire to ride a bicycle.

In this camp, we welcome kids ages 5-11 who are Learn to Pedal and are Beginner riders.  Learning to ride a bicycle is a moment in someone’s life that will likely be a lifelong memory. Many times it is a moment of huge growth and accomplishment. Once pedaling is mastered, it feels easy, but learning to ride a bicycle with control takes time and is not simple.

Learn to Pedal: There are sub-levels of beginner riders. We welcome beginners ages 5 - 11, who

    • have no experience with a bicycle whatsoever
    • have experience with training wheels or strider type bicycles and are ready for the next step
    • may be fearful / hesitant / resistant / emotional
    • struggle to hold their balance
    • can barely pedal
    • use their feet to stop or having trouble stopping
    • slow reaction times have a hard time starting or weave excessively while riding
    • fearful / hesitant / emotional
    • you as a parent would consider their ability as “new” or “beginner”
    • would benefit from an outside source teaching them to ride

This camp is designed to fundamentally change your beginning child’s riding ability regardless of what level of beginner rider they start from. Every child learns at a different rate, and some progress faster than others. We guarantee that every participant in this class will highly benefit from our instruction. Class operates in a safe, enclosed parking lot as a learning environment, but we use this setting to create a variety of courses with a variety of drills and adaptive techniques so children can practice fundamental skills safely based on the child's individual abilities. Following camp you will be able to practice with your kids by taking them to ride with you in a safe area.

Following this camp, we highly recommend signing up for one of our Early Rider / Intermediate Rider summer camps, which offers a continuing, comprehensive, week-long program that push abilities further. Repeated days of riding while also focusing on specific drills will dramatically improve your child’s riding ability.

We welcome working with a diversity of children: If you believe your child needs specialized instruction (for example, very hesitant or fearful) or your child has special needs, please contact us to discuss options that will offer appropriate support for your child’s success. We offer private, one-on-one lessons. We have had great success working with children first in a private lesson and then transitioning them to a group setting for additional growth and practice.

  • Bike - A bike in good working order. It's a good opportunity for me see what they are riding at home. I will do a safety check and make suggestions and adjustments if needed.

  • Helmet (if you have one) - They will receive a helmet fit. Wearing a helmet is mandatory during this camp for any activity on the bike.

You will receive a more comprehensive list of what to bring as the camp approaches.

Covid Policies: We will enforce CDC guidelines and should those change we will update accordingly. We plan to have a hand washing station on site, and possibly our own porta john that will be cleaned and locked each night. Right now, we are being told we have access to inside the church for bathroom use, but this can change. Both coaches are fully vaccinated and we will be riding outdoors. Social distancing will be maintained when kids are on break and seated in their chairs. During some drills, it is impossible for us to work with your kids individually without close contact, according to the CDC guidelines, masks for kids is still recommended by the CDC, but during summer while working hard riding we know this can be tough on the child, we will ask kids to wear masks at other times like using the bathroom inside the church, but we will also be lenient while riding and leave this to parent discretion about what they prefer their child to do. If your child is visually sick, please keep them at home.
