Learn to safely prepare shelf-stable salsa using fresh tomatoes, onions, and peppers and the boiling water-bath processing method.
About this Event

Michelle Grosek, Master Foor Preserver, will provide a hands-on class that includes details of preparing and canning salsa using the boiling water-bath processing method. Participants will learn how to use fresh tomatoes, onions, and peppers to make delicious salsa and learn lifelong food preservation skills. Printed recipes and instructions will be provided to each class participant.

The class is scheduled for Sunday, July 26 from 12:30-3:30pm. Space is limited and available only to registered participants who must be at least 18 years of age.

The cost is $10 per person (plus the small registration fees charged by Eventbrite). Participants who have children in their household who qualify for free or reduced lunch or residents of their household who receive SNAP/EBT benefits can request a refund for the class fees following their completion of the class.

Participants will be able to return to Someone’s in the Kitchen, between July 27 and 31 to pick up a complimentary pint jar of salsa made during the class.

Funding for this food preservation class is made possible by the Rapid City Rotary Club and a grant from Rotary District 5610. The class is offered in partnership with the City of Rapid City Sustainability Committee, Someone’s in the Kitchen, and volunteers who have received extensive training through the South Dakota State University Extension Master Food Preservers program.
