Tired of pants that pool at your ankles or skirts that hang unevenly? In this hands-on 3-hour hemming workshop, you'll learn to hem pants and skirts with confidence. No more relying on a tailor or safety-pinning your way through the day.
We'll cover:
✂️ Measuring and marking an even hem
✂️ Blind hem stitching vs. machine top-stitching vs. hand-finished hems
✂️ Techniques for denim, lightweight wovens, and lined garments
✂️ Troubleshooting common hemming mistakes
You'll leave with a properly hemmed garment and the skills to tackle hemming projects at home on your own.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
This sewing class is designed for sewists who already know how to thread their machine and sew a basic straight stitch (you do not need to be perfect at this). We'll jump straight into hemming technique, so this isn't a first-time-at-a-machine class.
What to Bring:
- A pair or two of pants or a skirt that needs hemming (woven fabrics only, please — no knits, as stretch fabrics require different techniques not covered in this class)
- Matching thread, if you have it (thread is available to purchase at Quilt in a Day)
- It is suggested to wear a pair or leggings or bike shorts. We will be trying on our pants in class.
