About this Event
Join experts Paul Crowhurst and Jan McIntosh as they share the fundamentals of growing your own garden at home in even the smallest of spaces for long term success.
This free workshop will also include time to plant your own seedlings in organic soil and how to grow microgreens to take home. Registration is essential.
Paul Crowhurst is passionate about producing vegetables and fruit from the home garden and has been teaching the necessary skills to groups at Community Colleges and Auckland Council supported workshops over the last 8 years.
Prior to that he ran his own landscaping business and taught horticultural skills at both Kelmarna Gardens in Herne Bay and Devonport Organic Gardens.
A long career in horticulture has enabled Paul to be able to gain the knowledge and the desire to teach others to grow their own fruit and vegetables, helping new generations to be more self-sufficient.
Jan McIntosh is an experienced television director and producer, who started her television career at TVNZ. There she created ‘The Palmers Garden Show’, a long-running high-rating series in prime-time. She has always been a keen gardener, having learned from her father, and is now passionate about growing food organically. Everything in her garden is edible.
She took up contract television production after her children were born and 8 years ago set up Organic Edible Garden, a website devoted to helping people grow their own food. She figured there was a generation of people who had missed out on knowing how to grow food and vital knowledge had been lost. The website operates as a mentor and inspires people to get out and learn, be successful and then be able to pass it on to the next generation.
This workshop is brought to you by the Central City Hub: Central City Library and the Ellen Melville Centre.
