About this Event

Learn to fish at Biidaasige Park, Toronto's newest city park!

The from Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources teaches the art of sustainable and ethical angling that aligns with conservation ideals.

During each session, participants will learn how to interpret Ontario’s fishing guidelines and follow sustainable fishing practices such as catch and release. Participants will also learn how to safely use fishing equipment before casting into Lake Ontario with live bait for an unforgettable hands-on experience.

Learn to Fish sessions are also offered throughout the summer at (1 Leslie Street, Toronto) and TRCA’s (10818 Heart Lake Road, Brampton).

Participants do not need a fishing license to register for Learn to Fish.

Program Information

· Participation in the program is free.

· All fishing equipment and bait is provided.

· All participants under the age of 18 must have an adult over the age of 18+ that is registered, accompanying them at the event. No exceptions will be made.

· Please aim to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled session time to ensure adequate time to sign in. Participants who arrive more than 15 minutes late may not be admitted.

· The recommended age for participation is 6 and up. For the safety and comfort of all Learn to Fish participants, we may ask families to share fishing rods while at the fishing location.

· Sessions will last 2 hours, with approximately 20 extra minutes of walking time from the Old Fire Hall 30 meeting point to the fishing location on the Don River.

· Sessions run rain or shine, but are subject to cancellation and modification.

· Learn to Fish practices safe catch and release; all fish caught during the program will be released.


Note: We kindly ask that you cancel your Eventbrite tickets if you anticipate you will not be able to attend your session so others may register. Thank you.


Meeting Location: Please meet next to Old Fire Hall 30. Look for the Learn to Fish flags and tent.

Parking: Limited free parking is available across the road from Old Fire Hall 30 at 39 comissioners street.

Washrooms: Washrooms and water refill station are available in Old Fire Hall 30.


What to bring:

· Sunglasses (required for participants aged 18 and younger, and strongly suggested for all other participants)

· Closed toe shoes

· Hat, sunscreen, and bug spray (if needed)

· Water bottle


Session Agenda:

· Dry land lesson near the Old Fire Hall 30

· Walk to fishing site (around 20 minutes)

· Fishing lesson and casting into the Don River at Biidaasige Park

· Return to Old Fire Hall 30
