Mend It, Don’t End It: An Intro to Darning
There’s something satisfying about giving a worn-out favorite a second life. This August, take a morning to slow down and learn how to darn: a simple woven technique for repairing holes and worn spots in knits and woven fabric alike.
Maybe it’s a pair of wool socks that didn’t survive last winter, or a shirt with a small hole you’ve been ignoring. Either way, you’ll learn the basics of darning by hand, no sewing experience required. Like your mends bold and visible? We’ll cover that. Prefer them nearly invisible? We’ll cover that too.
Bring a few items from home you’ve been meaning to fix, or just show up and practice on samplers I’ll have on hand. Either way, you’ll leave knowing a useful, low-key craft you can keep using long after the workshop ends.
This is a small group class, limited to 8 people, so there’s plenty of room to ask questions and get hands-on help.
Materials included: Needles, yarn, thread, darning mushroom, and instructions included. Please bring socks or a garment with a small worn area or hole to be darned.
Instructor: Sara Mahowald
Cost: $35
