Come join us for our first ever “Shim Sham” line dance workshop on June 20th taught by our good friend and a phenomenal teacher Claire Newsome!

Swing isn’t just a partner dance: it has a long and vibrant tradition of line dances throughout its history – with the most famous and popular being the “Shim Sham” invented in 1928. This is choreographed group dance incorporates a sequence of classic solo-jazz moves that is performed at Swing social dances all over the world. When you hear the intro to “T’Aint What you Do” by Jimmie Lunceford, everyone joins in on the floor to perform!

If you’ve never tried solo jazz or line dancing before, this is the perfect introduction. The Shim Sham is approachable, beginner friendly, and a fantastic way to experience one of the great traditions of jazz dance culture.

You need not have ANY Swing or dance experience (no need for quick memorization or terminology required). Come by yourself, bring a friend, or come as a whole group. Everyone is welcome!
