What is Forró?
Forró is Brazil’s joyful embrace in dance form, lively, social, and full of good energy! Originating in the Northeast of Brazil, it’s danced to the irresistible rhythms of accordion, zabumba drum, and triangle. The steps are simple to learn, the music is infectious, and the atmosphere is welcoming.
About our instructor, Michelle:
With 20 years of experience in Latin dances like Salsa, Bachata, Axé, Samba, Brazilian Funk, and Forró, plus 5 years in American Ballroom, Michelle brings energy and expertise to every class.
Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, she began dancing at age 5 with Ballet and Capoeira. Michelle has performed at Carnaval in Rio and Chicago, taught at Fred Astaire Dance Studios, and now shares her passion for Forró at the Chicago Capoeira Center and McFetridge Sports Center.
In 2023, she led popular Forró workshops at festivals including Afro Summer Love and Aloha Forró in Hawaii, and performed with Forrozin USA at the Brazil 201 Festival. Michelle is dedicated to growing Chicago’s Forró community!
