The League of Women Voters has a long history of conducting candidate forums and is widely considered to be one of the most capable non-partisan organizations in this regard. With this in mind, the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County is hosting a hybrid forum on September 23, 2026 beginning at 6:30 pm at Batavia City Hall, 100 N. Island Ave, Batavia. We are inviting candidates on the ballot for the November 3, 2026 General Election who are in contested races for the offices of Kane County Treasurer, Kane County Clerk, Illinois State Representative Districts 49, 65, 70 and 83. The forum for the contested races will be held in person with an audience and also live streamed on the Batavia Access cable television YouTube channel. The videos will be on the websites of the LWVCKC as well as the VOTE 411website.
The forum will be divided into 3 segments, beginning with the candidates for Kane County Treasurer followed by the candidates for Kane County Clerk and then the candidates for Illinois State Representative Districts 49, 65 and 83, with each district having their own section. Each segment will be approximately 30-40 minutes in length, depending on the number of questions submitted for each area. During the appropriate segment, each candidate may give a one-minute opening statement. After opening statements, each candidate will have the opportunity to answer questions submitted during registration and those from the audience. Questions will be reviewed by a team of League members and forwarded to the Moderator to ask. Each candidate will have one minute to answer the question, unless the Moderator deems more time is necessary. At the end of the segment, each candidate will have 1 minute for a closing statement. Only candidates may participate, no other person may act as a representative for the candidate. The forum will be recorded for use by the League of Women Voters and will also be placed on the Vote 411 website.
The League of Women Voters follows FEC guidelines and no political paraphernalia, buttons, hats, shirts may be worn by anyone within the forum, nor will any political signs be permitted in that such is considered electioneering and is strictly prohibited.
