Saturday 12th Oct 2024 at The Wild Dyery, Studio 6, 3 Wood St, Hoylake, Wirral, CH47 2DU. 10am - 4pm. Only 12 places available.
Adopt the pace of nature as you forage local, seasonal plants for the dye pot along with beautiful shaped and textured foliage to print on to paper and fabric. Eco-printing is a wonderful technique that records the unique signature of a leaf or flower, creating a lasting record of a time and place.

During this one day event you will try a variety of folding and bundling techniques and will use both natural dye and iron blankets on fabric and paper.

After booking and prior to the event, you will be sent a complementary list of plants to consider along with guidelines for foraging.

During the workshop you will make a simple concertina book from your paper samples and will leave with a selection of silk noil fabric samples along with instructions showing you how to stitch them into a memory apron or cushion at home should you wish.

If you have special flowers from a bouquet or your garden that you’d like to include please bring them with you although you are entirely responsible for researching varieties to ensure they are safe to use beforehand.

About your teacher
Justine Aldersey-Williams is a regenerative clothing activist, founder of the Northern England Fibreshed and a botanical textile dyer and educator at The Wild Dyery.
She recently made fashion history by producing the U.K.’s first pair of homegrown jeans - in the process capturing the imaginations of industry, media and consumers alike with her mythic ‘field to fashion’ initiation story.
Her pioneering work intersects creativity, deep ecology and spirituality. Her practice involves connecting to traditional wisdom and natural lore through the matrilineal textile crafts that transform seeds into cloth.
Nicknamed Woadica, she’s helping develop the commercial upscale of organic British indigo from our heritage plant source, Woad with her company Homegrown Colour. Her intent is to help fashion manufacturers and consumers divest from fossil fuels in favour of our botanical wisdom keepers so everyone can wear clothing that’s regenerated ecology, economy and society.
Justine is a highly sought-after speaker and lecturer working at the forefront of the agroecological clothing movement. She demonstrated indigo dyeing to 6 million BBC Countryfile viewers and has featured in numerous press articles, radio interviews and podcasts.
This is one of only 2 in-person workshops she's offering this year, so it's likely to sell out quickly.
In the event of cancellation or absence participants will be offered the online digital version of this workshop as a substitute. As fabrics are purchased and pretreated for each participant in advance, no refunds can be given.
What People Are Saying:
"Justine presents her material very clearly but also with a passion for the craft. Her holistic point of view is extremely refreshing and opens up many doors that a purely technical class would not. I have felt inspired by this class and am just beginning to explore all the new directions this has taken Eco Printing for me. I would highly recommend Justine as a teacher and hope to work with her again in the future."
"This was an amazing course, the content was far greater than I could have anticipated. Every part of this course was exciting, informative and it was put together in a way where every aspect of the learning slotted into a holistic whole."
"Thank you Justine. I have no hesitation in recommending this course to anyone thinking of taking up ecoprinting. It has been amazing, enlightening and oh so much fun!"
