Leading Through Challenges: Communication, Conflict & Trauma-Informed Methods
Working in victim services requires navigating complex situations, challenging conversations, and the ever-changing needs of those we serve. This interactive training will explore how trauma-informed practices can be applied effectively while recognizing when they may go too far. Participants will strengthen their communication and conflict-resolution skills and engage in practical professional development activities designed to support stronger, more confident leadership in the workplace. This training is open to managers as well as those who aspire to become one.

Robin Afinowich
Integrative Healing Specialist
Robin’s work is rooted at the intersection of her background in Justice Studies, Clinical Psychology/Mental Health Counseling, and Mind-body Wellness. She has been a licensed trauma therapist, Master Yoga teacher and specializes in Somatic Psychology and body-mind interventions for trauma resolution. Though clinically trained, her approach to mental health and community wellness is rooted in holistic and integrative perspectives and modalities that restore balance, purpose, and fortitude.
Robin is a nationally recognized presenter on Trauma and Resilience (visit Trauma-Forward) and has trained thousands of helping professionals. She has been teaching yoga for over 20 years and is considered a teachers’ teacher. She blends all areas of expertise in this unique training.
Robin has created progressive, evidence-based trauma healing programs that incorporate alternative healing modalities such as trauma-informed yoga, mindfulness, eco-therapy, art, music, cultural heritage projects, and peer support programs. She has created programs for Veterans, Cancer Care/Health Care Providers, Family Services, Victim Advocacy, and First Responders.
Angela Rose-Chief Program Officer, New Life Center
Angela Rose has worked in the field of victim services for over 20 years, currently serving as the Chief Program Officer for New Life Center. Prior to this position, Angela served for 13 years as the Victim Services Division Manager for a municipal Prosecutor’s Office, overseeing victim advocacy services for approximately 4,000 victims annually. Angela has also worked in numerous human services capacities, including as a support group facilitator and advocate in a domestic violence shelter, a mobile crisis specialist for a mental health agency, and director of case management services for the largest transitional housing agency in the Valley. Angela previously served on the Executive Board of the Arizona Coalition for Victim Services and trains advocates and criminal justice professionals throughout the state of Arizona.
Amy Bocks-Director of Victim Services, Attorney General's Office
Amy Bocks is a career victims’ rights advocate and serves as the Director of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office of Victim Services (OVS), where she leads statewide efforts to strengthen victims’ rights, advance trauma‑informed practices, and coordinate systemwide responses for victims and survivors. With more than two decades of experience in victim advocacy, Amy began this work in 2001 and has since served in roles spanning direct service, program development, legislative and policy contribution, and statewide training.
Amy has managed trial, appeal, and death‑penalty cases; supervised advocacy teams; overseen the OVS Volunteer Intern Program; and directed grant development and reporting to sustain critical victim‑service programs. A NOVA‑trained Crisis Responder, Amy is a recognized resource to agencies across Arizona and is known for delivering impactful training on victims’ rights, victimology, and high‑impact advocacy practices.
Amy serves as Vice Chair of the Pima County Victim Compensation Board, is the past Chair of the Arizona Coalition for Victim Services, and is an Ambassador for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Amy’s contributions to the field have been recognized with the Attorney General’s Michael C. Cudahy Award for Mentoring and the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council’s Advocate of the Year Award.
