Leadership Scholars Academy SESSION 1: The Leader Within: Leading Yourself
About this Event
Leadership Scholars Academy™ Session 1: The Leader Within - Leading Yourself
2‑Day Interactive Workshop Agenda
Program Description
The LSUHNO School of Nursing Leadership Scholars Academy™ is an immersive two-day leadership development program designed to cultivate self-aware, resilient, and emotionally intelligent leaders in healthcare and academic settings. Grounded in the theme “Leading from Within: Using the Science and Art of Leadership and Management,” the program emphasizes personal leadership as the foundation for effective team and organizational leadership.
Over two days, participants engage in evidence-based leadership frameworks, psychometric assessments, and experiential learning activities. Day One focuses on self-discovery and leadership foundations, using Emergenetics®, character strengths, grit, and mindset theory to help participants understand their behavioral and thinking preferences and align values with leadership practice. Day Two builds on this foundation by exploring interpersonal leadership, including DiSC®, emotional intelligence, happiness physiology, communication under stress, and crucial conversations. Throughout the program, participants apply insights to real-world leadership scenarios and develop a personalized Leadership Development Plan to guide ongoing growth.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this two-day educational activity, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate personal leadership styles, thinking preferences, and behavioral attributes using validated assessment tools (Emergenetics®, DiSC®, Emotional Intelligence, VIA Character Strengths, GRIT).
- Describe how values, mindset (fixed vs. growth), and personal strengths influence leadership behavior and professional decision-making.
- Apply principles of self-awareness and emotional intelligence to improve communication, collaboration, and relationship management within teams.
- Analyze the effects of stress, emotional response, and interpersonal dynamics on leadership effectiveness and team performance.
- Construct an individualized Leadership Development Plan that integrates assessment results and evidence-based leadership strategies.
Program Format
Highly interactive, experiential learning process designed to move participants from awareness of individual preferences to practical application in group and team settings. The instructional approach blends brief didactic content with hands-on exercises, reflection, and facilitated dialogue to ensure concepts are immediately meaningful and transferable.
