About the Artist
Benjamin was born in Paris. He started to study the piano at the age of 7. He graduated from Paris Conservatoire du Centre in 2019 where he studied piano, music theory, voice, chamber music, music culture, collaborative piano with a specialty in opera singers accompaniment.
Benjamin also graduated with his Masters in Music Education from La Sorbonne in 2015 where he studied Music and Musicology. He also studied conducting at Conservatoire de Lille.
As a vocal coach himself, Benjamin enjoys working with a diverse repertoire and improving his skills and knowledge of this art form. In 2012 he composed his first piece for choir and orchestra that he conducted in the auditorium of La Sorbonne for the prestigious Lycée Henri IV. In 2015, he composed the music for the show Ultra Violet performed at the FIAF in New York City. Benjamin’s versatile piano playing in both classical and pop music led him in 2016 to conduct the musical Oliver Twist at Salle Gaveau in Paris.
Benjamin has been teaching music for more than ten years and he is now a music teacher at Ecole Bilingue de La Nouvelle-Orléans. Benjamin is also a singer-songwriter under the name « Bamin ». In 2020 he released three original songs available on streaming and this winter he will release his first EP recorded in New Orleans. In 2021 he moved to New Orleans to both teach music in a French immersion school and record his solo album. He also takes jazz piano lessons with Rickie Monie!
In 2022 he performed with the French opera singer Manon Lamaison in a show staged by Gregoire Francois at the Marigny Opera House. Manon and Benjamin have been performing together under the name DuoManonBen for more than 10 years.
Program
A concert in 3 parts.
1st part: Romantic classical music by little-known European and New Orleans composers.
2nd part: French classical music and music from French cinema.
3rd part : own compositions
Benjamin Patrier-Leitus (Bamin) is a Parisien musician currently living in New Orleans. He will be performing an eclectic program including some of his own compositions as well as works by classical New Orleans composers and more.
Benjamin loves to venture into the forgotten alleys of the romantic piano repertoire and half of his program will be focused on little-known music by European and New Orleans composers such as Oskar Merikanto, Carl Filtsch, Babadjanian, Paderewski, Gottschalk, Basile Barès. Benjamin will also perform music by women composers such as Mel Bonis, Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Wieck-Schumann. Also featured will be the works of French composers: Francis Poulenc, Gabriel Fauré, Reynaldo Hahn and Charles-Valentin Alkan (who was friend with Liszt and Chopin). Benjamin will end the concert with music from the French cinema and perform (for the first time) a few of the songs from his new EP!
