EnviroBuild is excited to announce the Emerging Architects Redesign Outdoor Urban Life” design showcase, a landmark event taking place during the London Design Festival 2024. This exhibition will feature the top designs from our architectural design contest, selected by our esteemed judges including Bidisha Sinha Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, Laura Stephenson Director at Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Kathryn Tombling Architect Principal at BDP, Brigit Johnson at Stockwool and award winning Kieren Majhali at Karakusevic Carson Architects. Presenting the most innovative and eco-friendly solutions for urban living. The event promises to be a celebration of creativity and sustainability, highlighting the emerging talents in the field of architecture and offering a platform for these visionary designers to shine.

The Urban Balcony Design Showcase is your chance to immerse yourself in the future of sustainable design. Our open design house will be accessible every weekday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm throughout the festival. Visitors can explore the top 10 designs from our architectural contest, each selected by our our esteemed judges including Bidisha Sinha Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, Laura Stephenson Director at Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Kathryn Tombling Architect Principal at BDP, Brigit Johnson at Stockwool and award winning Kieren Majhali at Karakusevic Carson Architects, for its creativity, sustainability, and innovative approach to urban balcony design. These designs represent the best of emerging talent, offering fresh perspectives on how to enhance urban living through thoughtful, eco-friendly architecture.

About the Judges:
Laura Stephenson- Director Allford Hall Monaghan Morris
After working for a number of leading practices across London, Laura joined Allford Hall Monaghan Morris in 2006. Since then, she has led the Stirling Prize nominated Westminster Academy, RIBA award winning Kirk Balk Community College in Barnsley and Kingswood Academy in Hull. Other key projects Laura has led include William Street Quarter Masterplan in Barking, the first privately funded social housing scheme in the UK, and the refurbishment of BBC Studios 1-3 at the world-renowned Television Centre, as well as the Blossom Street masterplan, which includes refurbishment, restoration, facade retention, and new buildings and public realm on a key site in Shoreditch close to the City fringe. Most recently Laura has led the team working on proposals for a temporary House of Commons at Richmond House. Laura was promoted to Associate Director in 2014 and Director in 2021.
Kathryn Tombling- -Princpal, Head of Housing-
Kathryn is an architect and principal at our London studio, also co-leading our housing sector work. With over 20 years of cross-sector experience, she excels in creating sustainable communities through masterplanning and strategic thinking. Kathryn manages major mixed-use residential projects, including a new community at Plumstead West Thamesmead, and has contributed to the regeneration of Tollgate Gardens, and masterplans for Queen Mary University of London and King's College London. Her previous projects include the award-winning Heslington East masterplan and the transformation of an office building into the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's headquarters. Kathryn is on the NLA expert panel and the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
Bidisha Sinha- Associate Director Zaha Hadid Architects
Awarded the Commendation for Best Culture & Community by New London Architecture and the RIBA Regional Award for Mathematics: The Winton Gallery, Science Museum, London. With a mission to create visionary, sustainable spaces that enhance quality of life, I have contributed to iconic projects like Evelyn Grace Academy, Forest Green Rovers Eco-Stadium, a Bespoke Private Residence, and a Luxury Retail Mall. Joined Zaha Hadid Architects in 2005.
Kieren Majhail- Associate Karakusevic Carson Architects
Kieren is an Associate at Karakusevic Carson, leading public sector housing projects across the Midlands, London, and the South. With over a decade of experience, she specializes in housing design and residential masterplans, collaborating with entities like the West Midlands Combined Authority and Homes England. Kieren is a member of the RIBAJ Editorial Panel, an Architects Journal award judge, and has been recognized as a RIBA Rising Star (2018) and RIBA BAME award winner (2019). Currently, she leads the renewal of Horatia and Leamington Houses for Portsmouth City Council. Kieren joined Karakusevic Carson in 2020, focusing on enhancing collaboration and community engagement in architecture.
Birgit Johnson, Associate at Stockwool
Birgit focuses on the post-planning phases of projects, managing the delivery of working drawings packages for large residential and mixed-use schemes. Birgit joined the Practice in 2007 and became an Associate in 2021. She has been responsible for, or central to, the delivery of many of Stockwool’s developments over those years.
