About this Event
Kanbe's Produce Sorting
Description & Activity
With the goal to redirect 1 million pounds of food in 2024, we will be sorting produce into their four redirection tiers:
Kanbe's Healthy Corner Stores - bringing fresh, affordable produce to underserved areas.
Community Partners -- providing fresh produce to over 35 local food pantries for neighbors in need.
Animal Feed -- nonprofit rescue farms.
Compost - what isn't fit for human or animal consumption
What to bring/wear: It's recommended that you wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty, and closed-toe shoes. Since you may be working in a refrigerated space, you may wish to bring a light layer for comfort. Bring a refillable water bottle, and gloves, too, if desired. Masks are optional.
Timing logistics: Arrive: 12:45 PM for 1:00PM Start Depart: 3:00 PM Kanbe's encourages carpooling, as they have a limited number of parking spaces. Volunteers should enter the parking lot on the south side of the warehouse - through two sets of gates, and park in the "Guest or Visitor" spaces. There are other tenants in the building whose parking spaces are marked with "Reserved" signs.Enter the building through the entrances marked "Welcome Volunteers" and then follow signs to our Kanbes Volunteer Center for sign in and orientation.
