Hosted by the National Wildlife Federation and the University of New Orleans, the Environmental Research Workshops will offer a broad overview of the wildlife impacts of offshore wind followed by an expert panel discussion on ways innovation and technology can reduce impacts to wildlife and marine ecosystems.

Offshore Wind Wildlife Impacts 101

This session is intended for participants who are newer to the world of offshore wind and wildlife concerns. The presentation will cover activities associated with offshore wind development and the potential impacts of those activities on wildlife and marine ecosystems. There will be a high-level overview of environmental laws related to offshore wind development and a review of the permitting process. Join us to learn more about these topics and how to be more engaged in advocating for responsible development of offshore wind.

Reducing Environmental Impacts Through Innovation

This workshop will explore how innovative technologies can play a vital role in minimizing wildlife impacts throughout offshore wind development. Participants will engage in collaborative discussions with industry experts to examine existing technological solutions, assess their feasibility, and identify the key advancements needed for practical deployment. We’ll discuss the challenges of technological and financial feasibility, the need for market maturation, and pathways to accelerate development to better align with project needs.
