Laverne Cox is a powerhouse in the fight for transgender rights and representation—but her path from a struggling trans actress to a cultural movement was anything but easy.
In Transcendent, Laverne invites us into her journey as a transgender woman in Hollywood; confronting childhood trauma, shame and feelings of unworthiness; and, ultimately, healing.
Laverne Cox speaks with author and activist Kai Cheng Thom about making history for her role in Orange is the New Black, her fearless advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and finding her voice in a world that can too often feel lonely and unaccepting.
