Laverne Cox & Jason Stanley: Identity, Power and the Politics of Our Time
About this Event
Rush Line Available: Pre-booked tickets for this event are sold out, but we will be running a rush line beginning on the day of the event. Please continue to check back as more tickets may also become available.
As civil rights, historical truth and democratic norms come under pressure in the United States, Canadians are watching closely. What does it look like when a society begins to rewrite its past, narrow who gets to belong and chip away at hard-won freedoms? And what can communities everywhere—including here at home—learn from this moment?
Drawing on Stanley's scholarship on propaganda and historical memory and Cox's powerful voice as an advocate for human dignity and equality, this discussion moves past headlines to explore the bigger questions: how democracies erode, how they're defended and why the stories a nation tells about itself matter so much.
Thoughtful, urgent and ultimately hopeful, this is a conversation for anyone trying to make sense of the times we're living in.
Q&A to follow. Books available for purchase.
