L'AVANT-SCENE PRESENTS "BRITANNICUS" BY JEAN RACINE
The Troupe of the Department of French and Italian, L'Avant-Scene, the French Theater Workshop, will perform Jean Racine's "Britannicus" directed by Florent Masse at the Princeton University Art Museum at 8pm on Friday, February 6, and Saturday, February 7. "Britannicus" will mark the return of L'Avant-Scène at the Princeton University Art Museum for a full production since its opening last fall. The play tells the story of Britannicus whose fiancee Junia is desired by his adoptive brother Nero. Nero has seized control over the Roman Empire, yet driven by competition in love and fear of being overthrown, he plots to assassinate Britannicus. Racine's play presents a meticulous examination of Nero's transition from a virtuous Emperor to a monster driven by paranoia, corruption and depravity. The production will feature advanced L'Avant-Scene students Eddie Kong `27, Jeielle Habinam `26, Erik Lawani `27, Jordan Coty Eloundou Ndongo GS, Oladoyin Phillips GS, Prof. Flora Champy, FIT, and Sophie Orloff from the Community Atelier. In French, approximate running time 1h55 mn.
