Why do I get mud when I mix colors? I’m tired of mixing greens. Why can’t I get the right shade of red, green, purple, etc.?
About this Event

Instructor: Laurie Adams (www.loreleiarts.us)

Adults & Teens 15 and overMinimum 2, maximum 8

Prerequisite: Some previous experience required.

For beginning watercolor students who have taken a watercolor class before, existing watercolor artists whose techniques are rusty, or artists who want some continuing instruction or who want to learn new techniques. If you have no previous experience with watercolor, I suggest you take a beginning watercolor class prior to this class.

Why do I get mud when I mix colors? I’m tired of mixing greens. Why can’t I get the right shade of red, green, purple, etc.? How do I make a nice gray? Can I use black? Can I use white? How do I make my existing colors and color mixes brighter? I will answer all these questions and more in this class. I have a separate color theory class, but there will be some color theory in this class as well. This class will demystify why some colors don’t work together and some do. You will learn about the different properties that make up watercolors. This will be part lecture and part doing practical exercises and making color charts to document our experiments. Then, for fun, we will make our own custom blend of a few of our favorite color mixes in take-home pan palettes (they may need to stay at the gallery for a couple days to dry unless you can carefully take them home). You will have a record of how you made these colors so that you don’t have to waste paint in the future try to find that perfect mix.

This is a 3-hour class but there will be a short break in the middle, and you can bring a snack.

Bring to class: Bring your own watercolors to this class. Contact the instructor for a recommended supply list. However, if you are still building your own supplies, I will have extras on hand. I will be providing some materials such as paper and templates, and some take home items. You may also bring extra paper (140# cold press). You may bring snacks, a lunch and drinks to this class. Contact the instructor if you have any questions.
