Description:
If you’ve ever read the children’s classic, Where the Wild Things Are by Maruice Sendak, then you are primed for active imagination. (And if you haven’t, we’ll start there!) Active imagination was an essential practice for Carl Jung, as he directly engaged with the images and feelings from his unconscious, which gave rise to his theories of the archetypes and the collective unconscious, as he accessed the primary resources for his own individuation. We can witness his astounding journey in The Red Book. Jung’s life helps us see the vital connection between imagination, creativity, and individuation.
Interested in trying this yourself? You already know how! The imagination required is built into us all. Like Max in the story, we will simply drop into the rich world of our own unconscious, then consciously participate in imaginary experiences. As we engage with our own “wild things,” we access the creativity required to integrate their wisdom into waking life. And we find ourselves aligned with divine desire, with libido, with the life force – however you wish to call this energy of the Self’s expression.
How does the “wild rumpus” begin? We will start with the story, exploring it as our collective active imagination experience. Then we’ll engage in three other active imagination practices, including the Six Magic Questions, a 20-minute writing exercise, and a simple expressive art piece. We’ll end with a grounding practice to help anchor your creative insights and secure the path back to the realm of your wild and beautiful “things” that arise during this lively, inspiring time together.
Participants will need to bring a journal or notebook, and a pen.
We will meet at The Link Counseling Center (348 Mt. Vernon Highway NE, Atlanta) at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 19th.
