As a prelude to 'Rasquachismo: 35 years of a Chicano Sensibility,' the first exhibition by Mia Lopez, Curator of Latinx Art, we welcome celebrated scholar Tomás Ybarra-Frausto to mark the 35th anniversary of his seminal essay on rasquachismo. This Chicano aesthetic, grounded in resilience, resourcefulness, and the spirit of the “underdog,” captures a bicultural sensibility that melds Mexican traditions with American influences.
