See you all at Victoria’s biggest latin party!
About our special guests:
Leif Bradshaw has already made quite a name for himself. He plays five instruments: piano, trumpet, viola, cello and percussion; has carved out an acting niche and has already completed a number of professional composing projects. But what he is really known for is his voice. A cross between Gregory Porter and Kurt Elling. Growing up obsessively consuming music of nearly every genre, and participating in several musical projects in and out of school, Leif Bradshaw was particularly fond of jazz, possibly thanks to his parents choosing Vince Guaraldi as default lullaby music for their newborn son. After over half a decade of being a familiar face to Victoria music scene, whether as a guest singer with some fabulous projects or leading his own project, Leif has become one of the top vocalists of his generation.
Shanna Dance, Victoria, B.C's own vocal gem, has a rare and
profound ability to instantly capture and embrace an audience.
Covering genres from straight jazz standards to deep soulful R&B
music she takes her audience on an exciting and enriching musical journey.
Having been compared to singers such as Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone
and even Etta James, Shanna will amaze you with her moving vocal passion.
She is also known to surprise audiences by performing her own rhythmic
percussion accompaniment. After receiving a diploma from Victoria Conservatory of Music, Shanna transferred to Capilano University with the intention of completing her jazz degree. She decided to return home to Victoria, BC in 2013 to give her performance career a real shot. Shanna exhibits musical talent and maturity way beyond her
years. She lived in East Africa where she volunteered as a Community Choir
leader. She also spent a number of months in Thailand where she employed music as a
method to teach preschool aged children.
Rebecca Barritt filters soulful songwriting through explorative moods to cook up a project textured with paradox: lightness and tension, desperation and transcendence.
Songwriting shaped by childhood echoes of church music; passion writers like Bob Dylan, Josh Ritter and Kathleen Edwards; singers like Lana Del Ray, Nina Simone and Norah Jones; duos like Angus and Julia Stone; and composers like Eric Satie. Other early inspiration came from bands like Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and Radiohead and guitar players like David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Kelly Joe Phelps, Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers and the sonic creativity and unorthodox playing style of Johnny Greenwood; more recent influences include Kevin Morby, Wilco and War on Drugs. As Rebecca, vocal tones with classically influenced electronic keys and gritty atmospheric guitar, immerse listeners into the heart and depth of their evocative soundscapes.
