About this Event
Latin American women have always been at the forefront of resistance and revolutionary struggle against colonisation and imperialist threats. This tradition continues today.
The year 2026 began with a dramatic escalation of imperialist aggression by the government of the United States and its allies against predominantly Latin American countries pursuing socialist projects. The kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores was the most violent and explicit demonstration yet of the Trump administration’s disregard for international law and human life, resulting in over a hundred deaths. These actions were followed by intensified pressure on Cuba and numerous threats against other Latin American nations. But the people resist.
This IWWD event is held to honour the perspectives of women who resist imperialism every day in Latin America and beyond. We celebrate those who organise communities, governments, and collective defence efforts to defend their sovereignty and socialist projects.
