About this Event
In this five hour class, you will learn basic lathing and build a small brass "salute" cannon to take home. 3D print the base of your choice.
- Goal is to be both fun an educational, it's a balence. This is a 1 on 1 class.
- Review some basics about lathes , tools, work holding, the Cannon print.
- Lathe operation both machines, getting comfortable with them, on-off, movment.
- Walk you through the process of setup, and your machining experienc as you shape the brass so precisely on these two great pieces of American Iron. First Lathe a 1943 Southbend 16 inch tool room lathe. Second a Late 1980's Hardinge Chucker lathe.
- Skillfully shape the brass with these manual lathes using manual controls and dials.
- Put theory into practice as you cut out a small cannon maintaining the tolerances.
Class includes all materials, including the cannon, trunnion and STL files to enable 3D-Printing either a "Army Carriage" or a "Navy Carriage"
