About this Event

The Drama Book Shop presents, in association with Jay Michaels Global Communications, Late Stage - Theatrical Perspectives on Age and Aging - A Talkback, signing and live podcast recording.

Join several contributors and featured artists for a conversation about Late Stage: a new book that asks what it means to grow older in theatre and in everyday life. Moderated by co-editors Benjamin Gillespie and Cindy Rosenthal.

About the Book

What does it mean to grow older in our society and how is that story told on stage? Bringing together artists and scholars, Late Stage: Theatrical Perspectives on Age and Aging explores aging not as decline, but as something lived, performed, and constantly evolving. From classic playwrights like Chekhov and Ibsen to contemporary voices like Caryl Churchill, Robbie McCauley, and Judith Malina, the volume looks at how theatre shapes the way we understand age, identity, and time. While youth remains a privileged position in our society, Late Stage offers a different perspective: one that sees aging as creative, complex, and full of possibility—both onstage and in our everyday lives. The collection is dedicated to the late critic and playwright Elinor Fuchs (Yale University).
