About this Event
Late Onset is a rambunctious, heartfelt saga which dives into formative moments in creator Jamie Nelson's queer evolution, as he recalls the love affair that literally almost killed him. A two-time Moth Story Slam winner, Late Onset is Jamie's first hour-long solo storytelling play. It's a poetic, bare-bones conversation with no fourth wall. An authentic, vulnerable confession - with a Shakespeare-cherry on top - full to the brim with bawdy queer joy... and at least a couple of pancakes and unicorns.
James Patrick Nelson recently starred in the Off-Broadway world premieres of My Man Kono, Reverse Transcription, and the New York Times Critic's Pick Memorial. He appeared in the LA transfer of Broadway's Slave Play at the Mark Taper Forum, the New York and Boston productions of Bedlam's Pygmalion, and the world premiere of Terrence McNally's final play Immortal Longings. Along with his ensemble, he won a Helen Hayes Award for Bedlam's Sense and Sensibility at the Folger Theatre, reprised at the American Repertory Theatre. He began his Off-Broadway career in The Three Sisters with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard, A Midsummer Night's Dream with Bebe Neuwirth and Taylor Mac, and Ivanov with Ethan Hawke and Joely Richardson at Classic Stage Company. Additional credits at the Mint, New Light Theatre Project, Outliers Theatre Project, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Playhouse on Park, New Brooklyn Theatre, and the American Shakespeare Center. He most recently starred in A Christmas Carol at the Geva Theatre. He has written and acted in several indie films, and created the TV pilot "For Years to Come" co-starring Richard Riehle, which played in over a dozen festivals, including SeriesFest, HollyShorts, and Outfest, and currently streams on the YouTube channel Short Frame. He received his BFA from the Boston University School of Theatre, and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. james-patrick-nelson.com @jamespatricknelson
