About the Cultural Programming
Last Night I Cried… Echoes of the Heart comes to the Bronx in collaboration with Bronx Council on the Arts, extending the project’s world into communal gatherings shaped by film, dialogue, and healing-centered practices. This series creates space for reflection and collective care, normalizing heartbreak and reminding us of the power of community healing. While Manhattan and Brooklyn, with their concentrated wealth, offer frequent art and wellness events and greater access to mental health resources, Bronx residents often have to travel far to find these experiences. Bringing Last Night I Cried…Echoes of the Heart here ensures the community can access art-driven healing where they live, without leaving their own borough to feel seen, supported, and connected.

This programming is being hosted at The Bronx Museum, a creative pillar in the community, which continues to host exhibitions that inspire and connect. Currently on view is Ministry: Revered Joyce McDonald, curated by Kyle Croft, Executive Director of Visual AIDS. This exhibition spans McDonald’s sculpture work from the 1990s, using personal struggles to drive her practice as an artist, activist, advocate, and “spiritual nurse.” She considers her art an extension of her ministry and a channel for divinity, compassion, and healing. McDonald’s depictions of calm embrace mirror the strength, support, and unconditional love that sustain our shared humanity.

As the evening unfolds, guests are invited to arrive at 6 PM to view this remarkable exhibition, which weaves threads between all of the conversations our program seeks to hold—about heartbreak, renewal, care, and the sacred act of remembering.

Following the screenings, the night will conclude with a reflective tea ceremony led by Kaira O., a NYC-based psychotherapist and psychedelic guide specializing in supporting BIPOC communities and adult children of immigrants. Through her integration of psychedelic-assisted therapy and sacred plant medicines, she offers participants a grounding space for reflection after the films unfold—an invitation to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with the self and one another.

Please feel free to share this invitation with friends, family, and colleagues who may be interested in attending.
