π± No shovel required.Lasagna gardening is exactly what it sounds like β layering. Cardboard, compost, leaves, wood chips. Stack them up on any patch of ground and you've got a rich, productive garden bed by the time you're ready to plant. No digging. No tilling. No fighting Alaska's notorious clay soil.
On June 4th, Mary Ellen Garner β co-founder of Friends of Boyer's Orchard β is leading a hands-on lasagna gardening workshop right here at the orchard. You'll see the beds she's built on this property, learn the exact layering sequence she uses, and leave knowing how to build your own.
You'll learn:
β The layer-by-layer method that turns any patch of ground into a garden
β What materials to use, where to get them free or cheap in Anchorage
β How to plant into a lasagna bed right away if you can't wait
β How to adapt the technique for Alaska's short season and challenging soil
No experience needed. If you can layer lasagna, you can build a garden bed.
