Lara Jones
Trees.R.Good
Lara will be embarking on her first solo tour with her new album Flow. The album is a reflexive response to not being able to perform music to and with people, ‘As much as I didn't want to create lockdown music, I suppose by nature that's exactly what it is...I spent a lot of time with my computer making sounds I wanted to hear on giant speakers in a club in a room full of sweaty people dancing…’. This tour launches Flow into these spaces. Listeners of Enso will recognise Lara’s innovative use of field recordings. In her latest work these offer a more private insight of the home and move away from chaotic sounds of the public.
If you follow Lara on Instagram you’ll have seen her latest ‘Is It Jazz’ series; comedic videos that parody her more experimental work and play into the desire to put music into a box. She’s often asked ‘Is your music really jazz’ and has cleverly spun this back on her fans, spurring reflection on how we classify sounds in a post-genre world. Her new music does exactly this, occupying a space between and beyond genre, resisting categorisation.
'Lara is an incredible talent - a polymath far ahead of her years who moves seamlessly from sax to electronics and back again. With her new track Upside Down, she creates a genre fluid sonic brew that both confirms her credentials as a restless experimenter while confounding any expectations about the kind of music a jazz saxophonist “should" be making. Who knows what will come next - all I can say is keep listening.' - Federico Bolza
Lara was delighted to have the upcoming EP ‘Flow’ funded by Help Musicians UK’s Peter Whittingham Jazz Award. Allowing her time to create and develop her production skills through mentoring from the masterful Chris Sharkey.
Despite this year being a difficult one for all musician’s, Lara has had a lot of success, receiving further support from Manchester Jazz Festival, awarded a place on Serious’ prestigious Take Five programme which will see Lara featured at EFG London Jazz Festival and some brilliant gigs alongside Seb Rochford, Maggie Nichols, Run Logan Run and DJ Shlomo. She’s an unstoppable force who’s not afraid to change or challenge the status quo.
