Feeding hummingbirds is an enjoyable summer backyard activity. Watching them hover to feed and spar with other hummingbirds for feeder space is fascinating and fun. The attractiveness of a yard to hummingbirds can be improved through the use of appropriate landscaping materials including trees and shrubs as well as annual and perennial flowers. If you are a hummingbird lover, mark your calendar for Monday, March 24th. An educational workshop on landscaping for hummingbirds will be held at 6:00 P.M. in the Alliance Room of the Chanute Memorial Building, located at 101 S Lincoln, Chanute. The featured speaker will be Chuck Otte, an avid birder, naturalist, and author. The program is sponsored by the Southwind Extension District and free to the public. Please register by March 21st by calling 620-244-3826.
