“This storytelling workshop will have us feeling like gods for the day. With monsters, myths and maybe if we’re lucky, a little bit of magic, together we’ll build a brand new world filled with…well, whatever we want. How will we use our imaginations to create paradise? Come and find out."In this all day creative writing workshop, we will use our chosen set of values to devise a creation myth to inform the politics and religion of a brave new world. There will be gods, monsters and world building inspired by global tales as we go back to The Beginning. Using our minds, pen and paper, and the power of lego, we can build a world together.
At lunchtime, lunches will provided to enjoy together as a group, lets bread bread together and build bonds!
Tanya Akrofi is a writer, oral storyteller and counsellor from Lincoln. She writes for children and adults alike, blending mythology and folklore with modern challenges to creative empowering narratives.
*Important* This session will be supervised by Lincoln Museum DBS checked staff, this is a drop off event although parents and Guardians are welcome to stay in the building.
What to expect:
This workshop is taking place in the New Curtois Gallery. This is the main temporary gallery space in the Museum, it is accessible by ramps via the Main entrance and Orientation hall. To find the New Curtois Gallery, enter the museum and walk forwards through the Gift Shop, turn left when you are in the Orientation Hall and walk towards the tall window. The New Curtois Gallery is accessible through the last large automatic doors on the right.
This session will run from 10.30 - 15.30. This will include a lunch break.
In this workshop you will be using lego, paper and pens. Be ready to use your imagination!
You will make a collective world map. You can take elements of it home with you.
This session is Intermediate level. Some experience of working with others is important, if not at least a willingness to be part of a group activity.
This may be challenging if you have difficulty with visualising or using your imagination. People will be talking out loud so it may be noisy, to help you with this we have noise cancelling head phones and fidget toys available.
Here at Lincoln Museum and Usher Gallery, we welcome all participants; if you still aren’t sure whether this workshop is accessible for you or someone you care for, please email us at [email protected] and we can discuss your access requirements.
